Side project: Laura’s Wild Kitchen

Hello out there. I’ve been a little off my blog-posting game lately, mainly because I’ve been cooking up a new side project. Literally.

For anyone that doesn’t know me very well, I am a slightly obsessed foodie and I love to cook. My husband is also a hunter. This means we not only have a deep freezer full of very lean and very sustainably raised meats (as in, raised in the wild the way nature intended), it also means I’m always searching for new and creative things to do with said wild game. I consistently frequent the food blogosphere, and through my search in “what the hell to do with all this meat” I have yet to find a blog or decent site with game recipes. Yes, a quick google search will yield results of hunter’s websites with static pages, often sporting annoying background colors and equally annoying text colors and of course, no pretty photos. I want game recipes that are easy to read, that you can print out, that are on a cute little blog and I want the pretty pictures dammit!

Uh huh, because I needed another personal project. But, sometimes you see a hole in the cloud and think to yourself, “The people need this, and it is lacking. I must give the people what they didn’t know they wanted.” You know, like Apple. After lots of trial and tribulation over finding a great blog name (She’s Got Game was my fave but alas, is taken), I settled on the very simple: Laura’s Wild Kitchen.

So come poke around and check it out, and if you don’t cook with wild game no worries; I offer non-game substitution suggestions at the bottom of every recipe. In the meantime, here are a few goodies to look forward to in the weeks and months to come:
